Unfortunately I can't use this for the purpose of an alarm clock and I'll have to hock in on Craigslist. you have to program everything through the remote2.
I would suggest another brand/product if you want to use this for an alarm clock otherwise the quality is good, the sound is good and it does recharge my ipod and iphone. you have to turn off the alarm by using the power button on the remote - not easy at 4am in the dark4.
Mine does have a snooze but it's only 5 mins long and when in snooze mode you can't see the clock (blinks "snooze")3. complicated set up - I consider myself fairly intellegent and I still can't get the alarm to go off using my ipod.
I recieved this as a gift and was very excited. My complaints:1.
when the alarm goes off the unit blinks bright blue lights- hubby doesn't need to wake up too5.
Even with the display in the lowest eco-mode (which is off), there is enough light from the display that I had to cover it up in my efficiency apartment so I could sleep. Another star deducted for display intensity levels and lack of alarm set (wake timer) feedback in the display. Good concept that doesn't have all the features a system of this price should have (~$100 when I purchased it). An alarm clock with no snooze. The other option was unplug it for no display lighting. For instance, snooze. Default mode displays whatever you are listening too, whether the iPod dock or station that's tuned in. As far as other reviews saying the time does not appear in certain modes, it will display in all modes.
I don't need to be reminded of the mode. On the plus side, it's a great bluish night light. The clock displays with a simple push of the display button on the remote. I think I have enough memory capacity in my 7-bit brain to remember just having pushed the skip button for the iPod. The display should revert to the last display used not the factory default - another strike in design development.
This also highlights another shortcoming of the device, critical functions such as display mode and the 'set' button are only found on the remote, while the all-important color/demo button sits there uselessly on the system itself. The dual-dock is great for the iPhone and iPod without a lot of cable clutter. There were some great starts and ideas, but basic features were left off. One star off for lacking the critical functions on the system itself (buttons on the dock and snooze). Another downside is the brightness of the display. Over all, squarely mediocre for design, but compared to what's out there with dual docks, they all have their flaws. Other high notes, good sounding speakers for a system like this.
Had this about a year now. You could set up the 3 'wake-up timers' - I guess it can't be an alarm without a snooze - in staggered intervals so you have a snooze-like function. Radio reception is fine. Now you know what this one is lacking and can hopefully pick the least annoying system for you. As far as sound, it is more than adequate as a radio-caliber system. This epitomizes not finishing the job. it lights up the whole room at night.
Lastly, it is annoying that every time you change songs on the iPod, the display reverts back to telling you the mode its in versus the last display setting.
Not very powerful like many other expensive brands, but perfect for ambient sound and useful in the bedroom. This product still shows the message saying that is not made for the iphone, but it does everything, charge, play, alarm, lights, I have no noise at all in any call so the filter works. Nice product overall, really good price
If that thing ever gets lost or breaks (it's no bigger than a credit card), the unit will be useless. Now I can dock mine AND the wife's, not to mention set an alarm for just Monday through Friday, an alarm for just Sunday morning and still have a third alarm setting available for those rare Saturdays where getting up at a certain time is necessary. Most similar solution only have one dock and aren't iPhone compatible. Only gets docked a star because most of the controls are on the remote. You can't beat the features for the price. Great sound for something so small, dual docks capable of receiving two iPhones simultaneously, three alarm settings, good looking design, comes with everything you need. Brilliant.
I do not believe in a 2 iPod / iPhone family you can live with out this unit. The other issue is that the remote is the way you have to program most all of the functions. I am very pleased with the JVC Radio / iPod / Charger. The only issue is that the time does not reappear when the radio is on, only the station. Sound and the quality is great.
